debating peace

September 30, 2007

KABUL, Afghanistan – President Hamid Karzai’s office said Sunday that there is “serious debate” among some Taliban fighters about laying down arms, while a spokesman for the militants said they will “never” negotiate with Afghan authorities until foreign troops  leave. [Link]

I don’t know what these people are debating, but it is not peace. Peace cannot be debated. It can only be accepted or rejected. The absence of war is not the same thing at all.

Associated Press – September 29, 2007 5:53 AM ET

WHITE HOUSE (AP) – Anti-Iraq-war protesters have staged a small, but eye-catching, demonstration at the White House.

Five women and one man from the group Breasts not Bombs staged the
event in Lafayette Park across from the White House. And it wasn’t the
bombs that were on display.

Spokeswoman Janine Boneparth (BOH’-nuh-pahrt) says going topless is
just another way to oppose the Iraq carnage. She says what’s obscene is
not the protest, but President Bush’s conduct of the war.

Nearby Secret Service agents made no move to intervene.

Two thoughts:

  1. What, no pictures?
  2. Who is going to take this seriously?

more interesting indeed

September 30, 2007

Gmail allows one to see the first several words of an e-mail before it is opened. I just got an e-mail from Senator Barbara Boxer, the first few words of which were, “Dear Squelch, I know you’ve probably got more interesting things to do this weekend than read …”

I decided she’s right, and deleted it unopened.

I’ve just about had it up to my ass with the Democratic Party, and my two Democratic Senators in particular. There they sit on all that majority power, and all that mandate for change. What are they doing? Pissing into the the wind.

The Dems make big noise about confronting Bush, turning the tide, no more blank friggin checks. But nothing has actually changed. Almost a year after the elections, and it’s the same old song and dance. No. You know what it is with them? They’re back seat drivers.

George W. Bush is still in the driver’s seat, and he’s careening like an idiot. He’s been offroad for years, heading straight for a cliff at high speed. And there are the Dems, hunkered down in the back seat squawlin Oh dear Oh my, somebody stop this lunatic before it’s too late. They’ve had several chances to drag his silly ass out from behind the wheel and leave him in a ditch, but no. That’s off the table. Not gonna do it. Wouldn’t be prudent. Wouldn’t be good for the country. What a crock.

The Democrats are afraid to drive. And if/when this is all over, who’s going to crawl from the wreckage? We all know who’s not, and the count is going up fast and every day.

our worst generals

September 28, 2007

It appears we have appointed our worst generals to command forces, and our most gifted and brilliant to edit newspapers. In fact, I discovered by reading newspapers that these editor/geniuses plainly saw all my strategic defects from the start, yet failed to inform me until it was too late. Accordingly, I am readily willing to yield my command to these obviously superior intellects, and will, in turn, do my best for the Cause by writing editorials – after the fact.”– Robert E. Lee, 1863

How very droll. How would this read today? Perhaps that they (the news) have appointed our best generals as expert analysts, while the president has appointed the real generals to be his lapdogs at congressional hearings.

As for the editors and any who would speak truth about power, the president and his flying monkeys aren’t taking any more of their 1st amendment crap. Ask moveon.org. They will probably tell you they’re sorry their message was used to divert attention from the debate over the war. This administration will go to any lengths to avoid that discourse.

If you stand on Main Street America and yell “The Emperor Has No Clothes!” you can expect a Republican condemnation of the shine on your shoes.

shadow army

Bush now has more contractors in Iraq than military personnel. And they are immune – they operate above and beyond the law. [Link]
